Student Clubs

The Student Ambassador Program is a leadership opportunity for a selected group of students who represent Immaculate High School at various school and admissions functions. Immaculate’s student ambassadors are our best advocates. A student ambassador is enthusiastic, articulate, involved in the life of the school and a leader. This program involves a commitment of time and energy and will help develop your leadership, public speaking and interpersonal skills. The application process is in the summer of each year, with ambassadors accepted and trained in early September.

Come check out the Chess Club on Monday afternoons in room 104. All levels of players are welcome. Come to learn how to play the "game of kings" or maybe to learn how to play better. Beginners can learn through games that are simple and fun. Advanced players can explore new openings or meet up for competitive play.

The Bee and Quiz Bowl Club allows students to compete against their peers and other schools in various academic competitions. These competitions range from fun games during club meetings to much more serious and formal competitions, such as the Connecticut Geography Challenge run by Central Connecticut State University. The club's main focus is currently geography, but expansion into other academic areas in the near future is very possible.

The Business and Entrepreneurship Club meets bi-weekly to discuss topics in business, finance and economics. Periodically, guest speakers are invited to speak about their expertise in the field of business. Some of these men and women have been accountants, entrepreneurs and financial consultants, among others.

Another big part of the Business & Entrepreneurship Club is the club wide mock finance competition. This club is ideal for anyone thinking about pursuing a degree/career in business, economics, finance or accounting.

To experience the enjoyment of gardening by exploring seed/plant selection, germination, composting, potting mix production, harvesting and seed collection. A special emphasis is on having students start plants at school for planting in their own home gardens. Garden Club members have already succeeded at saving seed and propagating several native wildflowers including Echinacea & Agastache.

Created by the Air Force Association to inspire K-12 students toward careers in cybersecurity or other science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines critical to our nation’s future.  Teams are given a set of virtual operating systems and are tasked with finding and fixing cybersecurity vulnerabilities while maintaining critical services.

The Immaculate Writing Club, founded in 2020 when the remaining members of two Immaculate clubs, the Creative Writing Club & Newspaper Club, decided to combine and build a club that encourages students to focus on all types of writing. Since then, the club gathers twice a month to embolden members to create unique pieces using their words - to write anything from short stories and screenplays to articles, poetry, and reflections. The club editors then provide feedback on each piece and, from there, students can choose to have their work published. We welcome students from all grades and levels of experience because we all have stories to tell and the goal of the IHS Writing Club is to help members find ways to tell them.

The GOAL of the International Club is to "provide an environment where students can learn about other countries, reflect on their role in an international community, and deepen their understanding of other cultures and cultural differences and similarities."

MU ALPHA THETA is the United States mathematics honor society for high school and two-year college students. This organization is dedicated to promoting scholarship in mathematics and establishing math as an integral part of high school and junior college education.

The St. Thomas Aquinas Chapter of the National Honor Society is a chartered and affiliated chapter of this prestigious national organization. Membership in the National Honor Society is offered to juniors and seniors who meet the criteria established by the National Association of Secondary School Principals. These are: scholarship (cumulative GPA of 3.50 or above), leadership, service and character. The preceding qualities of potential members are determined by a comprehensive application for admission.

The Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica is an honor society for high school students enrolled in Spanish and/or Portuguese, sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese. 

The mission of the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica is to recognize high school achievement in Spanish and Portuguese and to promote interest in Hispanic and Luso-Brazilian studies.

Our School Chapter is known as Capítulo Jorge Mario Bergoglio, named in honor of Pope Francis.   

The National English Honor Society (NEHS), founded and sponsored by Sigma Tau Delta, is the only international organization exclusively for secondary students and faculty who, in the field of English, merit special note for past and current accomplishments. Individual secondary schools are invited to petition for a local chapter, through which individuals may be inducted into Society membership. Immediate benefits of affiliation include academic recognition, scholarship and award eligibility and opportunities for networking with others who share enthusiasm for and accomplishment in, the language arts.

Requirements for membership:

• 3.5 grade point average - the previous year's average is considered for admittance
• Vocal or instrumental audition with a song of the student's choice. The panel consists of Mrs. Murtha and the current Tri-M executive officers
• All candidates must be able to attend the biweekly meetings immediately after school.
• All candidates must be able to help set up and take down for the periodic Tri-M Coffeehouses

Tri-M members sponsor an annual "Parochial School Coffeehouse," open to students in grades 5 through 8 who attend our partner schools. Tri-M uses monies raised to offer a scholarship to one of the participants in the "Parochial School Coffeehouse" to one of the Danbury Music Centre's summer music programs,

The French Club (Cercle français) is an active, enthusiastic group of students who enjoy French and cultural activities related to the language. Activities such as but not limited to: make a French music playlist, French karaoke, French baking and cooking, put on a French bake sale, host a French movie "night," French scavenger hunt, arts and crafts and French book club. These are all fun and relaxed activities that will help you practice your spoken French and connect to others in the French-speaking community. The club will most likely meet twice a month. Days to meet to be determined. No level of French is too little to join!

With the assistance of a teacher-sponsor and States' Attorney Harding, students actively experience the excitement of working in teams, exchanging ideas, setting goals and examining issues while interacting with positive role models from area communities. By studying legal cases and preparing strategies and arguments for trial, students also develop presentation skills, analytic ability and team cooperation. Students participate in rehearsal trials to lean more about the legal system in a competitive manner.

Model UN is a simulation of the UN General Assembly and other multilateral bodies. Students step into the shoes of ambassadors to debate current issues on the organization’s agenda. While playing their roles as ambassadors, students make speeches, prepare draft resolutions, negotiate with allies and adversaries, resolve conflicts and navigate the Model UN conference rules of procedure- all in the interest of mobilizing “international cooperation” to resolve problems that affect countries all over the world.

Morgan's Message is a non-profit organization whose objective is to eliminate the stigma around mental health, especially in the student-athlete community. As a club at Immaculate, we spread awareness of the importance of mental health to everyone, emphasizing, but certainly not limiting it to, the effects on student-athletes. We do this through meetings and projects like dedication games, posters, flyers and more. We want to not only create a safe space for people but also to create a caring and loving community that is willing to support each other and join in spreading a crucial message.

She’s the First teams up with grassroots leaders to make sure girls everywhere are educated, respected and heard. In addition, our chapter hosts candy grams for Christmas and Valentine's Day, bake sales, and this year a Father/Daughter Dance.

The IHS Drama Club, as part of the Performing Arts Department, produces a fall play - we welcome anyone who is interested in theater arts to participate, even if you have no experience. We rehearse after school, Tuesdays and Thursdays, until 3:30. The show is presented the first weekend in December.  We will also need people behind the scenes - stage crew, scenic design, costumes, hair and makeup, anything associated with a production. Stop by 307 to ask questions.

The Art Club meets weekly on Monday. No experience necessary. This club is open to all who love art and want to learn more about art and pottery. We do have a wheel and kiln for those that are interested in clay. Bring your own project or try something new. We also assist with events around the school that need a display.

Faculty Moderator:

Students are encouraged to share their joy of singing through a choir experience. This choir will participate in Mass as well as on other occasions that we are invited to sing off campus. All you need is the joy of singing. We will provide the music!
