Immaculate’s production of “PIPPIN” is an original concept version of the Tony Award-winning 1972 musical; it takes place in the mind of Pippin and will feature two Leading Players (instead of one), who serve as his consciences, one good, one bad.  Plus, Immaculate's musical this year promises to be like no other high school production as it will be performed in the round, meaning the stage will be in the middle of the gymnasium and the audience will surround it on all four sides. The Spring Musical is reimagined and directed by Matt Farina and produced by Kathleen Czel, English teacher.

She’s the First 5K on May 18; Help Us Help Other Students

Please support IHS students who are helping to help girls in third-world countries get an education by participating in the annual She’s the First 5K Walk and Run. The event is Saturday, May 18 at Tarrywile Park in Danbury beginning at 9am; registration starts at 8am.

The Immaculate Chapter of She’s the First is sponsoring this annual 5K Walk/Run in order to raise funds to sponsor the education of girls who would not ordinarily be able to go to school. She’s the First is an organization that provides scholarships to girls in low-income developing countries to help transform their lives through education; only one in every five girls in the developing world finishes primary school and, of those, only one in three attends secondary school.

The Walk/Run is in memory of Rebecca Draper Townsend, an Immaculate graduate from the Class of 2015 who passed away in a tragic accident in July of 2015. Rebecca was the founder of Immaculate’s She’s The First Chapter, one of the first high school chapters in the country. Rebecca loved theater, fashion and travel but most of all she loved helping others and that is what this walk/run is all about.

Don’t miss this important event. Click here to register, be a sponsor of the event or simply to make a donation. Register by May 8 and receive an event t-shirt. Registration fee is $25 per person or $65 for a family of five. You can also sponsor the event for only $100, $200 or $400 -- go to www.immaculatehs.org/stf5k for more information and/or to register. Please come out and help support the goal of transforming a young girl’s life in Rebecca’s memory!!

IHS Team Competes at Model UN Competition

The IHS Model UN team travelled to Boston College March 22-March 24 to compete at the EagleMUNC Conference.  The theme this year was “Exploring Distinct Perspectives” and delegates participated in an immersive 40-hour simulation, ensuring that every delegate remained completely "in character" for the duration of the conference.  Team sponsors are Mrs. Wendy Neill and Mr. Jeff Vingo, Social Studies teachers.

Students of AP Art and Portfolio classes visited the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and saw many types of art styles, including works by such masters as Vincent van Gogh. The students were surprised to see the real, famous “The Starry Night” on display.

Social Studies students took a field trip to Gettysburg to learn about the Civil War first-hand. They also visited Amish country and explored the region.

The Different Sounds of Music at the IHS Spring Concert

The best way to kick-off Spring is a concert. So on April 4, the musicians and singers of IHS gathered to perform their favorites at the IHS Spring Concert. The Concert Choir and Mixed Choir sang contemporary hits, spiritual music and folk songs while the Guitar Ensemble strummed songs such as “I’m Yours” by Jason Mraz and “La Cintura” by Alvara Soler.

The Jazz Ensemble, Concert Band and Clefhangers A Capella Club also performed a plethora of musical delights. The Tri-M Music Honor Society provide refreshments and a ceremony was held to honor graduating seniors in the music program.  The concert was conducted by Mr. Niall Reynolds, Band Director, and Mr. Doug Duca, Choral Director.
