Spring Team Updates

Varsity Baseball has started their season with a 4-6 record and are coming off two recent wins including a huge victory over New Fairfield on April 25! With the score tied 2-2 in extra innings, Tommy Fahey ‘21 hit a walk-off single to give the Mustangs’ their first win in conference play. Then on April 29 the team defeated Brookfield 4-2. Immaculate will have a stretch of conference games this week and next that will give them an opportunity to qualify for the SWC playoffs. With a strong pitching staff lead by juniors Joey Rios and CJ Johnson, the Mustangs have a great opportunity to pile up conference wins.

During Coach Greg LaCava’s first year as a Mustang coach, the Boys Lacrosse team is 5-4 and competing for a spot in the SWC playoffs. The next three games for the boys will be conference games, giving them an opportunity to jump up in the standings. The team has been led offensively by Stephen Sedensky ‘20, Christopher Karle ‘22, and captain Aidan Henderson ‘19. With defense struggling due to injuries, seniors Andrew Tureaud and captain Jeremy Lattin have stepped up in a big way to give the Mustangs opportunities to win.

Girls Lacrosse is currently at 2-7 for the season, but look to finish strong with hopes of making the State tournament. Senior captains Emma Baughman, Madison Halas and Kristen Cirone have all played their roles well. The girls have also got great production out of freshman Kennedi Muller and sophomore Emma Halas who have shown their abilities and promise for the future.

Softball has had a solid start at 4-5 as they head into their conference play in the coming weeks. In her first year pitching, captain Kate Banks ‘20 has performed well and improves every start. The girls' offense has been led by junior captains Mackenzie O’Rourke and Madison Flamme. With proper execution, the girls have a great chance of playing in the SWC and State playoffs.

Track and Field: Coaches Brian Hayes and Carlo Pascuzzi look to carry over their Indoor Track success to the outdoor season. At the Bristol Invitational on April 27, the team won lots of medals including Spencer Brown ‘19 for first place in the Long-Jump at 22-03, a Meet record, as did Angela Saidman ‘19 for the 1600m, Taylor Mascetta ‘19 for the 800m, and Kayla Ondy ‘22, AIiene Doherty '21, Molly Coyle ‘20 and Taylor Macsetta for the 4x800 and Kayla Ondy, Maura Murphy ‘19, Ailene Doherty and Molly Coyle for the 4x400. Spencer Brown also came in second place for the 110h and Molly Coyle came in third for the 1600m.

At the same meet, Ailene Doherty came in 4th place for the 400m, Ross Relator ‘20 came in 5th for the 200m as did Spencer Brown for the High Jump, and the foursome of Parker McKenzie ‘19, Ross Relator ‘20, Peyton Mckenzie ‘21 and Sean Guiry ‘21 came in 4th for the 4x400.  Finally, Christina Carboni ‘19 and Ross Relator came in 6th place respectively for the 3200m and the Triple Jump.

Boys and Girls Golf have both started their seasons off strong with only one loss apiece. The boys sit at 4-1 with strong performances from seniors Jack Woods and Ryan Fanella and sophomore Daniel LeBlanc. The boys look to finish their season strong in their quest to retain their SWC Championship title. Senior Avery Jarboe and junior Lauren Oskam have helped the girls team get a hot 6-1 start. Coach DeMaida and the girls look to keep the momentum going through May, with the hopes of conquering the program’s first SWC Championship.

Boys and Girls Tennis have had good starts to their seasons as well with the boys at a 3-3 record and the girls currently at 3-2. Senior captains Mikey Basile and Connor Mitchell has started their seasons strong, hoping they can help rally the boys to a strong finish to the season. Same goes for senior girls team captain Amy Perna, who hopes to lead the girls tennis team to the SWC playoffs. Both teams compete all five days this week with a chance to rocket up the standings. Good luck to both teams!
