TRACK ADVANCED TO THE STATE OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPS AND THREE RELAYS COMPETED AT THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

It has been a great track season!  Self improvement is the most important part of track, and every athlete improved their performances from the beginning of the season to the end. Many athletes who have competed before also made major improvements from last year to this year. Some of the highlights of the season included competing in the Middletown Invitational, one of the most competitive meets in the state; competing in the Loucks Games, one of the largest and most competitive meets in the country; winning numerous medals in the SWC championship; finishing 3rd (girls) and 5th (boys) at the State Championships; and qualifying thirteen athletes to the State Open. Throughout the season Immaculate athletes have consistently competed and excelled at the highest level.

However, the season was not over yet for some of our athletes. We had three relays competing at the National Championships. We had a boys 800 SMR competing in Oregon at Nike Nationals and girls Distance Medley Relay (DMR) and 4x800 competing in Philadelphia at New Balance Nationals.

Congratulations to the following athletes on their success!:

Girls Track competed in Philadelphia at New Balance Nationals in two events--the Distance Medley Relay (DMR) and the 4x800. Kayla Ondy  '22, Isabel Taiman  '23, Lauren Manning '22, and Keelin Bremner '23 finished 3rd in the Rising Stars Division of the DMR. Earning a medal at Nationals is no small achievement and their great race was a testament to their hard work throughout the season. Caitlyn Mascetta '24, Lauren Manning '22, Nicole Merritt '25, and Keelin Bremner '23 were competitive in a national caliber field for the 4x800 event.

Boys Track capped off their season by sending an 800m Sprint Medley Relay team to the NSAF Nike Nationals in Eugene Oregon this past weekend. Nick Paris ‘24, Chad Doto ‘23, Walter Brady ‘22 and Thai Sapenter ‘22 fought off some serious jet lag (due to flight delays) and put forth a solid effort to place 3rd in the Championship Division of the 800m Sprint Medley Relay. Their effort paid off as their 3rd place finish earned them NSAF Nike All American honors. They are the first Boys Relay team to earn such a prestigious honor at Immaculate High School.

Thai Sapenter '22  won the State Championship in the 400m while Walter Brady '22 finished 3rd. Both ran personal bests and advanced to the State Open Championship.

Our Boys 4x100m Relay (Billy Murphy '22, Walter Brady '22, Nick Paris '24 and Thai Sapenter '22) advanced to the State Open Championship by placing 5th at the Class S Championship. They just missed the school record by 0.12 of a second.

Seamus Reidy '23 placed 5th in the 1600m at the Class S Championships. He ran a smart race and placed from the slower heat (which isn't easy to do). Seamus advanced to the State Open Championship.

Seamus Reidy '23 and Ben Gasparrini '23, who after a long and brutally hot day, went on to place 4th and 5th respectively in the 3200m at the Class S Championship. Both Seamus and Ben advanced to the State Open Championship.

Billy Murphy '22 placed 5th in the Triple Jump at the Class S Championship. Billy advanced to the State Open Championship.

Our Boys 4x400m Relay (Matt Reeves '22, Walter Brady '22, Chad Doto '23 and Thai Sapenter '22) placed 6th at the Class S Championship.

Our Girls 4X400 (Nicole Merritt '25, Isabel Taiman '23, Caitlyn Mascetta '24 and Lauren Manning '22) placed 4th at the Class S Championship and advanced to the State Opens.

Ashley Nicoletti '22 placed 3rd in the Javelin and 4th in the High Jump. Ashley moved on to the State Open Championship in both events.

Kayla Ondy '22 and Keelin Bremner '23 fought off the heat (95 degrees) and placed 2nd and 5th respectively in the 1600m and came back with a 2nd and 4th place finish in the 3200m at the Class S Championship. Both advanced to the State Open Championship.

Lauren Manning '22 placed 2nd in the 800m at the Class S Championship. Lauren advanced to the State Open Championship.

Our girls 4x800 Relay Team Lauren Manning '22, Keelin Bremner '23, Nicole Merritt '25, and Kayla Ondy '22 won the Class S Championship. They have won the 4x800 the past three championship meets. They qualified for the State Opens.
