Mustang Monthly

During this month of the Holy Rosary, we have been praying and asking our Blessed Mother to protect, to guide and to strengthen our home and school families as well as help us bring peace to the world.

Our mission is to teach to the whole student so that they can explore, be challenged and identify their individual talents and interests. Author Renata Bowers visited our school to speak with and empower students by reminding them that “every one of us has a one-of-a-kind, never-before-told, amazing and very important story." Quoting Jeremiah 29:11 "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future," Mrs. Bowers encouraged students and staff to reflect on what we are good at and what we care most about, because the answer to these questions will help us pursue our God-given purpose in life.

These past few weeks have been filled with celebrating our school community. Our School Spirit Week not only brought smiles to both staff and students, it brought our students together as a Mustang family.  We are most pleased to share that our school spirit was recognized by News 12 Connecticut! Students, parents, alumni and friends cast their News 12 School Spirit Showdown votes and Immaculate was one of four schools selected in Connecticut for outstanding school spirit.  Immaculate was featured on TV News 12 and students and staff enjoyed a free pizza lunch to celebrate the recognition! Our school spirit and student talents have been visible in all that our students do, including community service and academic, artistic, musical and athletic skills. Rogers Park Middle School has reached out to us to help them with their "Weekend Backpack" Program. This program distributes food to students on Friday afternoons so that they will have food for the weekend.  Without this program students would go throughout the weekend with nothing to eat. The CT Foodbank was supplying the food for them but has stopped the program this year. Students have responded to the call and have been donating food to ensure that the Rogers Park children are provided for over the weekends.  Our student-athletes continue to demonstrate their talents -- all our Fall teams have made it to the playoffs.  Read all about it in the Athletic News section of this newsletter, and stay informed about their continuing progress by visiting our Facebook page. In addition, we have also celebrated students receiving academic and leadership achievement awards, including a National Merit Commended Student Award. And, mark you calendars to join us at our 2019 Immaculate’s Got Talent! program at Edmond Town Hall, Newtown, on November 6 and at the IHS drama production of Play On! scheduled for November 21, 22 & 23.

Our Chapel renovations continue thanks to the support of so many alumni. The much awaited heating system upgrade and new carpet are being installed this month. More than 50 students a day as well as staff members participate in daily Adoration - a testament to our school charism.

I hope that you enjoy this edition of our Mustang Monthly and welcome you to visit our website at www.immaculatehs.org to learn more about our school mission and school events including our upcoming scheduled Mass of Remembrance, Veterans Day Flag Tribute, Immaculate’s Got Talent!, Day of Giving and Fall Drama production.

Go Mustangs!
