Mustang Monthly

Earlier this month we hosted an Accepted Students Night for students who were accepted into the Class of 2024 as well as a Scholar’s Prayer Service and Luncheon for the Class of 2024's 18 incoming merit scholars who were awarded a combined $51,000 for the next four years.  We are so pleased to welcome each of our newest Mustangs to our Immaculate High School family!

Every year we review our curriculum and programs to determine if we are optimally preparing our students for college and beyond. We hosted our annual Alumni College Panel with members of the Class of 2019. They spoke with students about their experiences as well as provided some academic and program feedback to administration. We are pleased to announce that we will be adding courses in both the Business and Engineering fields as well as enhancing our Fine Arts offerings for the 2020-21 school year.  Our current robust academic programming will now include Civil Engineering and Architecture, Principles of Accounting H, Digital Arts Adobe Certification Program, a UCONN/ECE Principles of Macro and Micro Economics, US Economic History, Musical Theater and a Music Theory and Digital Composition course. We will also be adding a Spanish I Honors course to our current Distance Learning Program for Grade 8 students

If you are an alumnus who lives in the Washington, DC or Philadelphia area, our Mustangs on the Road team and I will be visiting you on February 19  and February 20. We are looking forward to the opportunity of getting together with you! Please visit www.immaculatehs.org/ontheroad to learn more details.

Catholic Schools Week was more meaningful than ever at Immaculate. We came together as a Catholic school family as we mourned the loss of beloved student Liam Devine ’20, who died in a fatal car crash on I-84 the evening of January 17. Students and families gathered together at a Prayer Service on January 19 for Liam and his family. Together we paid tribute to a young 17-year old who was not only academically talented but was compassionate to everyone he met, had an infectious smile and a sense of humor. We are most thankful to the Regional Grief Counseling team, the Therapy Dog teams and Rev. Chris Ford who arrived at the school on January 21 to assist our counselors, teachers and School Therapist Jenny Casey with supporting students with their grieving process. We are also most thankful to Father Dunn ‘82 and his St. Gregory the Great Parish as well as Rev. Chris Ford, Deacon Jeff Font, Msgr. Robert Weiss, Rev. Jim Cole, Rev. Karol Ksiazek and Rev. Eric Silva for their spiritual guidance, personal support and concelebration of Liam’s Mass of Christian Burial.  There is no doubt that Liam’s death has reminded us to be thankful for our God-given talents and that our faith is the wellspring of all that we do every day. What better time than now to pay it forward by living the values of our faith, caring for others and extending ourselves to be the best that we can be everyday, with a smile, just as Liam did.

The great news shared in this edition of Mustang Monthly is a true reflection of the continued support of so many.  Thank you for believing in Catholic school education and in the mission of Immaculate High School.

We are a blessed community,

Mary R. Maloney
