The excitement about being able to join together in person to celebrate our school community during Spirit Week and Homecoming events continues as our sports teams sponsor Play for the Cure games to support cancer research and are competing in SWC and state championship competitions. It was nice to see some of our alumni, staff, parents and students come together in person to cheer our football team as they defeated O’Brien Tech (40-6), to welcome our Homecoming Court and the crowning of Kevin Coonan ‘22 and Caroline Tucker ‘22 as homecoming king and queen, as well as pass on the tradition of the spirit stick to the Class of 2022.

During our Spirit Week, Bishop Frank Caggiano was joined by Msgr. Robert E. Weiss, pastor of St. Rose and Msgr. Kevin Royal, pastor and Deacon Bob Salvastrini of St. Mary Parish in Ridgefield, and our School Chaplain Deacon Jeff Font to celebrate Mass with staff and students. Following Mass, the Bishop and clergy joined in recognizing Patrik Backus for constructing a beautiful prayer garden at the school for all to use. Patrik, an Eagle Scout, was joined by his family and scout leaders as the Bishop blessed the garden.

Other highlights of Spirit Week included the annual Pep Rally where classes competed against each other in games held on the field to win points toward possessing the 2021 spirit stick and the Immaculate’s Got Talent show held at Edmond Town Hall in Newtown where students shared their musical talents and a flash mob of staff and administrators entertained the crowd with the Monster Mash dance including “the worm” danced across the stage. Many thanks to our Student Council and teachers Jen Doherty, Anthony Pellegrini and David Quesnell as well as Athletic Director Nelson Mingachos for their leadership in planning a fun, exciting Spirit Week.

Before Spirit Week, students were recognized for their academic accomplishments.

Zifeng Robin Zhen earned a perfect 800 score on the Math section of the SAT.

Our Class of 2022 have been amazing school leaders and are working hard to meet early decision college application deadlines and applying for both college and community organization scholarships. Our freshman, sophomore and junior classes have taken the 2021 PSAT tests and they are participating in our counseling department’s monthly Advisory Program that assists students with their Naviance college profiles as well as with setting annual academic goals. All students and staff are participating in the Key Club/Campus Ministry annual cereal drive for Catholic Charities Dorothy Day House and Jericho Partnership Danbury and raising money for our third annual Day of Giving tomorrow, November 4! Consider joining us in our efforts to raise $75,000 toward our Annual Fund goal of $225,000. The Annual Fund supports our student programs and more!

Our annual Mass of Remembrance is scheduled for this Friday, November 5 at 9:30am. If you would like to attend the Mass or would like us to pray for a deceased loved one or would like to participate in our Veterans Day Tribute to all of those who have served and sacrificed scheduled for November 11 at 8:30am, please click on the links featured in this newsletter or contact Alumni Programs Director, Jeannie Demko, jdemko@myimmaculatehs.org In addition to our Veterans Day Tribute, we are once again hosting our Veterans Hill of Honor. We will be displaying flags on the front lawn beginning Thursday, November 11. Flags with veteran name recognition on yellow ribbons can be purchased for $20. All proceeds will go to support the CT Department of Veterans Affairs.

All of us at Immaculate are extremely thankful for the outpouring of support from so many,  providing our students with a school year filled with incredible opportunities and the Catholic high school education they deserve. Your care, your prayers and steadfast commitment to ensuring that our mission is successful does not go unnoticed. May God bless each of you.

Blessings,
