Mustang Monthly

This has been an amazing year of transition, accomplishments and resiliency. Our Mustang Pride has been exponential. Students have been recognized as athletic champions, as high academic achievers, as CT State fine arts masters, as well as teens who pursue their own personal passions in community service and academic endeavors such as authors of written works, internships and musical presentations. It is during times of adversity and challenge that we have taken the time to listen, learn and respond to ensure that we maintain a culture of respect, responsibility and reverence. We have heard the voices of many, have prayed, have joined together in prayer for peace, justice and equality for all. I assure you that included in our reflective work this summer, we promise to take what we learned from alumni and current students and be proactive with making changes so that the experiences of every student are positive.

We applaud with much pride our Class of 2020, a very accomplished class of 113 students, for their academic recognitions, for being accepted into top colleges and universities (CLICK HERE) and for collectively being awarded over $30 million in scholarships, grants and awards. In addition, this class, albeit all of the recent social distancing, collectively contributed 6006 of the total 23,008 community service hours completed by all students this year. We congratulate our top ten students:  Valedictorian Hunter Kirkman, Salutatorian Sean Guiry, Ryan McNerney, Mackenzie O'Rourke, Molly Coyle, Ross Relator, Olivia Hynes, Keelan Doherty, Gregory Gruerio and Francesca Coppola. Because of this exceptionally talented class, our future is bright. We wish each of them many blessings as they continue to pursue their life dreams.

In order to maintain a safe environment for all, we will not be sponsoring summer camps but will be hosting our summer academic enrichment program virtually (CLICK HERE to see our program). We will be very busy planning for the opening of school in August and meeting regularly with local officials to determine use of best practices and adherence to state regulations. Our facility projects this summer include completing upgrades in our Chapel, completion of the Fitness Center and classroom upgrades.

These past three months have demonstrated the strength of our school community.  I am most grateful to our administrative team for working together to ensure that our mission remains the focus of all that we do at Immaculate. Our vision and our ability to be successful during challenging times is reflective of the collaborative commitment and efforts of our teachers, staff, parents and School Advisory Board as well as the tremendous support of alumni and friends, particularly of our recent needs to support students in our Adopt-A-Mustang program, and our Virtual Gala which raised over $175,000 with $81,000 going towards our Annual Fund goal of $225,000.  These selfless efforts, dedication and generous contributions are what enable us to provide every student an excellent, personally rewarding Catholic high school experience. It is without a doubt that we are a genuinely blessed, vibrant, faith-filled school community.

Have an enjoyable, restful summer,

Mary R. Maloney
