On October 9, several dozen area student-athletes grades 5-8 participated in a free Columbus Day Parochial School Basketball Skills Clinic held by Coach Mingachos (IHS boys basketball) and Coach LaPorte (IHS girls basketball) in Immaculate's Bobby Plumb Gymnasium.
At the Pep Rally held on October 13, current and former Co-Presidents of the Immaculate Parents Association (from l to r, Jeannie Demko, Dawn Ringes and Jen Cirone, with IHS Principal Dr. Patrick Higgins) presented a check for $12,000 to Immaculate High School. The funds will be used to renovate the boys and girls locker rooms (more news to follow) -- the donation was possible due to the parent and community support of all IPA and Mustang All Sports Club (MASC) fundraisers in the past year. Thank you to everyone!!

The New Video and Animation Club Will Tape The Games!
Immaculate High School has been streaming athletic home games with the help of the nfhsnetwork.com. To view these games either live or on demand, you will need a monthly subscription to Immaculate High School's NFHS Network page. Subscription plans can be purchased by clicking the link and then selecting subscribe located at the top right of the page. You will then see four possible plans to choose from. IHS receives 50% of the net revenue generated by all monthly and annual subscription passes sold.
Subscribing to the NFHS Network not only allows you to watch home games at the click of a button, but it gives you the opportunity to support IHS. The new IHS Video & Animation Club will broadcast 1-2 games a week. Games that will be streamed will each be announced in the IHS Weekly Update and on social media. Athletic Team Updates
The Fall of 2017 will not be forgotten any time soon, as the mighty Mustangs have been so successful! In particular, the boys and girls cross country teams, girls soccer team and girls field hockey team won the SWC Patriots Division! This is the first time in school history that four Fall teams were named SWC Patriot Division champs in one season. In addition, girls soccer and field hockey both qualified for States, as did the boys soccer team. Individual swimmers and divers are getting ready for big SWC meets. See below for recaps, highlights and competition dates.
Field Hockey: The field hockey team defeated Newtown 3-2 with and overtime goal by Madison Halas '19 at their Senior Night on October 18. The team is now Patriot Division Champions and ranked #3 in the State! On October 21 they defeated Woodstock Academy 3-0, and they will play in the quarter finals vs. Masuk in New Milford at 5:30pm on Friday, October 27.
Girls Volleyball: The team lost to Bethel 3-0 on October 18, but on October 19 defeated Abbott Tech 3-2. They lost to Weston 0-3 on October 20 but defeated Bassick 3-1 at at their last game of the season and Senior Night on October 23.
Swimming/Diving: On October 19 against Newtown, Devin McGovern '21 qualified for States in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:57.00. Farrah Volpintesta '20 won diving and broke her own school record with a score of 272.00. Lauren Petta '20 won the 100 butterfly by touching out her opponent with a time of 1:10.62. Swimming against Pomperaug, Aislinn Blair '19 won the 500 freestyle with a time of 6:02.22. Maya Velez '20 qualified for SWC's in the 50 freestyle with a time of 30.89 on the lead leg of the 200 freestyle relay. They are now preparing for the SWC Championship Diving meet at New Fairfield on Wednesday, October 25 at 5:30pm and the SWC Championship Swim Meet at Masuk on Saturday, October 28 at 3pm.
Cross Country: Both teams won the Patriot Division! Both the girls and boys teams had a solid showing at the SWC meet on October 18. The girls team placed second and the boys finished third in team scores respectively. The teams go on to the Class S Championship Meet at Wickham Park in Manchester on Saturday, October 28. The Mustang girls have won State titles in four of the last five seasons and are going for it again; the boy Mustangs placed third in a tight Class S race last year and hope to win this year.
Girls Soccer clinched the #1 seed in the SWC tournament with a 2-0 win over Newtown on October 17 and after defeating Oxford the night before 3-0 at their Senior Night in Mustang Valley. On October 19 the team rolled past Brookfield 6-1. They are Patriot Division champs and they will play in the quarter-final game against New Fairfield in Mustang Valley Friday, October 27 at 3:45pm for the SWC playoffs.
Boys Soccer: Boys soccer lost to Newtown 3-1 on October 17. They competed next at Mustang Valley for their Senior Night on October 19, where they lost to Brookfield 3-1. The team qualified for States with an 8-2 win over Stratford on October 23. The States game time/place to be determined.
Football won their Homecoming Game on October 13 vs.Vinal/East Hampton/Goodwin under the lights at Mustang Valley with a score of 36-14! They then defeated Quinnebaug Valley at Ellis Tech on October 20 18-0, making them .500 with a 3-3 record. They play again on Saturday, October 28 in Mustang Valley against Platt Tech at 1pm.
