Community Service Opportunities for IHS Students

Looking to get started on your 2012-2013 Community Service hours?  New Milford Hospital is looking for volunteers ages 15 -18 to help with our Medical Records, Dining, Front Desk and more.  Alumni or other adults are needed in all areas, including patient contact.  For more information please contact Maureen Decker at DeckerM@wcthealthnetwork.org or call 860-210-5287.

The Youth Volunteer Corps of Western Connecticut announces an exciting volunteer program specifically designed for youth. This group is supported by the United Way of Western Connecticut, which is headed up by Executive Director Isabel Almeida, IHS class of 1993. The program operates year round, offering volunteer opportunities for youth ages 11-18, through an extensive Summer of Service Program and throughout the school year. During the summer, projects involve groups of 10-20 youth volunteers working 9:00- 2:00 Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. During the school year, YVC offers weekend and school break service projects.

Rogers Park Middle School is looking for volunteers to help out with their after school program which runs on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2 to 4 PM. Contact Principal Patricia Joaquim at (203)797-4880.

Grass Roots of Danbury needs students to help out with tutoring Monday - Thursday from 4 to 6 PM. They also have summer service opportunities available as well. Contact Director Lauren Dalton at (203)797-0500 for more information.

CCOA (Christian Community Outreach Ministry) of Danbury is seeking volunteers for their breakfast program on Saturday mornings. Contact Operations Manager Donna Shaw at (203)794-9672 for more information.

VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) of Danbury is an organization that provides financial training and ESOL and SSOL programs for Hispanic residents of Danbury who are trying to assimilate into our culture. They are in need of Spanish tutors for their program which will begin in April/May. Contact Rudolph Sanchez at (203)826-9517 for more information.
