The indoor track team competes in meets throughout December and January, generally in New Haven at either the New Haven Athletic Center or Yale, at Wesleyan University in Middleton, or at the Newtown Youth Academy. The purpose of the meets is to give the athletes opportunities to achieve the qualifying standards in their events necessary to allow them to run at the conference and state championships in February. Although meets are contested indoors, nearly all practices occur outdoors, so cold-weather running gear is important.
As a team our goal is to qualify as many athletes as possible for the championship meets and to compete at our best in those meets. As individuals we strive to improve our performance as much as possible through training and competition, whether or not we achieve qualifying marks.
The events contested in indoor track are 55m, 55m hurdles, 300m, 600m, 1000m, 1600m, 3200m, 4x200m relay, 4x400m relay, 4x800m relay, sprint medley relay, long jump, high jump, shot put, and pole vault.
