In The Heights - 2013 Spring Musical

This year Immaculate High School was transformed into Washington Heights by the cast and crew of IN THE HEIGHTS. This group of over 60 highly talented young actors brought the beat of rap, Latin pop and salsa to our stage and thoroughly entertained over 1700 theatergoers.

They were led by principal leads Mike Hudak, Despina Drougas, Nick Gerbo, Deanna Lasco, Ms. Proverb, Mike Burns, Jack Guidera, Rachel Georgio, Sydney Hutchison, Kaytie Tedesco, Buddy Stocks and Katie Franqueira.

Immediately upon entering the lobby, the audience was transported into the neighborhood of Usnavi and Abuela Claudia. The lobby design was the result of the work of a handful of parents led by Gail Archer, Sue Guidera, Donna Lasco and Mary Stocks.

The imaginative set design was the genius work of Mary Raymond, Joe Loya, Tim Armold, Mike Hudak, Sr., and a group of dedicated parents and students. The set was an integral part of the show setting the mood and tone for the show which was about family, community, neighborhood life and the ups and downs of life that bind us all together.

Several teachers and staff were also involved this year making this show the great success that it was. Ms. Proverb made her musical debut this year as the beloved Abuela Claudia, Mrs. Julie Sorcek in the orchestra pit, Mr. Tom Burns, also in the pit and on the construction crew, and Mrs. Carol Stone on ticket sales.

The Production Team consisted of Mrs. Mary Raymond, Mr. Matthew Farina, Mrs. Peggy Gavin and Ms. Ann Brown.

Mary Raymond, the Director/Musical Director and head of the Fine Arts Department brought this whole experience together with her talent, dreams, experience, and her desire to help young actors perfect a craft of singing and acting. Matt Farina, the Choreographer, energized the show with his entertaining, high- energy dance numbers. Ann Brown, the Costume Designer transformed our cast of kids from the burbs into streetwise urban kids. Peggy Gavin, the Producer, rounded out this group.

The cast and crew leave this experience with knowledge of theater, acting, singing, the value of working together as a group, and memories to last a lifetime. Together this production team, cast and crew put Immaculate on the map as a stand out school in area of The Fine Arts and Theater.
