She's The First Annual 5K Fun Run

Saturday, June 23, the Immaculate Chapter of She’s the First is running their second annual 5K Walk/Run with all proceeds going to She’s the First, an organization that provides scholarships to girls in low-income developing countries to help transform their lives through education . Only one in every five girls in the developing world finishes primary school and only one in three attends secondary school.

The Walk/Run is in memory of Rebecca Draper Townsend, Immaculate graduate from the Class of 2015, who passed away in a tragic accident in July of 2015. Rebecca was the founder of Immaculate’s She’s The First Chapter, one of the first high school chapters in the country. Rebecca loved theater, fashion and travel but most of all she loved helping others and that is what this walk/run is all about.

Last year the event raised $6,800 which enabled us to sponsor six students this year: Marisol (Peru), Nilda (Peru), Rehema (Uganda), Ruth (Peru), Tigist (Ethiopia) and Sowndariya (India). The goal we are trying to reach this year is $6500 which would allow us to support another three students.

This past year the Immaculate Chapter of She’s the First was recognized by the She’s the First national organization with the 16-17 Outstanding Achievement in Fundraising Award for raising the most funds of any chapter in the US!!! HELP US REACH OUR GOAL OF $6500 THIS YEAR!!!

The race starts at 9:30 am on June 23. Click on the Registration box below to register, be a sponsor of the event or simply to make a donation. Pre-registration by May 1 will include a t-shirt. Registration fee is $25 per person or $65 for a family of five. Please come out and help support the goal of transforming a young girl’s life in Rebecca’s memory!!
