When your days of performing on Southern Boulevard feel like part of your past…it’s time to come HOME!  With our 50th Anniversary year about to come to a close, we invite alumni to join us for the Alumni Coffeehouse.

Our annual Alumni Concert is now the Alumni Coffeehouse and we are seeking alumni performers from across the decades to share their talents with us on Thursday evening, June 9. Come home to IHS to perform once again. It is always a great event. Everyone is invited to attend ($5 pp) and enjoy a night of entertainment at your alma mater. Coffee will be provided and all are welcome to bring their own snacks, desserts, etc. Open table seating. Please click the buttons above if you are able to perform (singing, dancing, instrumental, comedic acts are all welcome), or to register to attend the event. Our music department will be in touch with all performers in the coming weeks.

Congratulations to Laurie for recently being selected as the CT Parks and Recreation Association's Distinguished Service Award winner.  It is the highest honor the Association gives out annually.  It was awarded at the State Convention in the fall.  Laurie was also awarded a Proclamation from the City of Stamford's Mayor and the Board of Representatives for receiving the award.  She has had 35 years in the Parks & Recreation profession, all in positions of increasing responsibility. Laurie commented, "I have always said that IHS was critical to my professional and personal life. Immaculate has given me fond life long memories that I treasure dearly. I am always very proud to say that I am a graduate and a Mustang!"  Laurie is working with fellow alumni in planning the Class of '76's 40th reunion this fall.

"There is no greater joy than helping out anyone looking to pursue their dream. It makes it that much better to know that I will be helping a fellow Mustang, by sharing information about a field I love. Count me in!"  Megan Mitchell - IHS '10, Morning News Anchor & Reporter at NBC North Dakota News

One of the best ways to support our Immaculate students is by sharing your valuable career experiences with them. Every year many of our alumni do that through our Annual Career Day. We would like to build on that by offering you an opportunity to be part of our Mentor a Mustang Program. Through such things as information interviews, job shadowing experiences, paid summer opportunities and volunteer/intern experience, you can make a tremendous impact on a student who is trying to evaluate a particular career field. Please consider mentoring a Mustang who is seeking information, advice and counsel on your particular career field by filling out our online form (click here).

Thank you to the many presenters who joined us at this year's Career Day.  We are grateful for the support of our alumni and others in the IHS community for making this day a great one for our students. Special thanks to Dr. Ian Smith '87 for being the keynote speaker. He gave an inspirational address to the student body.

Taking his cell phone out, Smith took a selfie with the crowd of 467 students before beginning his presentation. Then he launched right into his core message, telling students that “your work ethic is what is going to distinguish you from others; it is one of those truly tangible attributes that will serve you throughout your life.” Smith reminisced on a mantra that was shared with him by his Immaculate High School basketball coach and alumnus, Dan Murphy '66, and one that he still practices today: Proper Preparation Prevents Poor Performance.

In addition, Dr. Smith told students to never be afraid and that ‘fear is the agent of paralysis’ and to ‘go out and experience the greatest roller coaster ride - life itself. Broaden your horizons, Mustangs! Our time on earth is finite. In a very humble tone, he reminded students that being kind “is a sign of true courage” and to celebrate their differences because the ‘norms of society are often wrong or misplaced.”

His parting words encouraged students to believe in themselves. “When others doubt you, use their doubt as your fuel for success. If you believe that it will happen, one day you will be returning to Immaculate to share your personal and professional successes.”

It was another great day to be a Mustang!  ‪#‎IHScareerday‬ ‪#‎IHSalumni‬
