Alumni events abound during the early winter months!

Each year during their winter break, many of our most recent graduates come back to IHS to share their college experiences with our current students.  It is always wonderful to see the joy among our faculty, staff and students as they see last year's graduates walk the halls once again.  We are grateful for the support of our youngest alumni.  They did an wondeful job in helping students gain a greater understanding of college life and shared how they felt IHS prepared them for future success.

Our annual Career Day at IHS took place on Friday, January 30th.  Despite a 2-hour delay thanks to Mother Nature, the day was a huge success thanks to so many alumni and other members of the Immaculate family.

Megan Mitchell, a 2010 graduate of Immaculate High School and currently the Morning News Anchor for NBC North Dakota News, made a special effort to visit the school and give an outstanding inspirational keynote presentation.  She encouraged her captured audience to take advantage of the supportive system at Immaculate, be truly involved, make a difference in everything they do, and to fully commit to doing their best to achieve their dreams.  To see a great video that Megan put together, as part of her address to our students, click below.

Following the assembly, approximately 30 presenters, mostly successful Immaculate graduates with careers in Medicine, Engineering, Law, Finance, Social Work, Architecture, Education, Non-Profit Management, International Business, Technology and more, spoke to students in small group sessions.  Our deepest gratitude goes out to all who helped make it a successful event for our students.  It was another great day to be a Mustang!

Alumni Spotlight
Michelle (Caravetta) Maturo '85

Michelle Maturo '85, entrepreneur and fitness professional at her business in Georgetown, CT.

In 2001, Michelle wrote down in her journal that she wanted to “coach, motivate, educate and inspire.”  She had those words underlined.  Michelle (Caravetta) Maturo ‘85, owner of Elevation Studio in Georgetown, Connecticut, believes that identifying your dreams and goals is the only way to achieve them. Michelle is a fitness professional who has encouraged and coached hundreds of people. As a competitive athlete in triathlon, marathon, and cycling events, Michelle enthusiastically brings her passion and experience to her clients at Elevation Spinning and Personal Training.

After graduating from Immaculate High School, Michelle received her BA in Marketing from Southern Connecticut State University. As a Certified Fitness Professional, Michelle holds many certifications: Personal Trainer with the Aerobic and Fitness Association of America, Personal Trainer with the National Academy of Sports Medicine, and Indoor Spinning Instructor with both Schwinn and Madd Dog Athletics. She is also a National Certified Cycle Coach as well as a Cycle Coach with Team in Training, a comprehensive endurance training program. Michelle began her career in 1997 in New York City as a Personal Trainer and Cycling Instructor. In 2002, she moved back to Connecticut and chose to strike out on her own to share her passion and created ELEVATION. Michelle advises aspiring entrepreneurs to ask themselves, “What am I good at? What are people attracted to when they are with me?”  She branded herself in the market of cycling, running and personal training.  It worked! The business has seen much success and has continued to grow. Elevation’s mantra is, “Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing at all.”

Michelle commented to us, "My high school experience was a positive one. I was always outgoing and setting a goal of being an IHS cheerleader was important to me.  When I achieved that goal, I was happy to represent Immaculate.  I think that started my desire for leadership & responsibility. Goals are important. Set them and GO!"  Congratulations to Michelle on her success as an entrepreneur!

Our first Alumni Hockey Game in years was played on December 23rd.  At game time, 30 alumni players hit the ice to take on our NFI team. Thank you to Conor Murphy '10, Greg Haliskoe ’07, and Coach Larry Vieria for their help in coordinating this event.  We look forward to doing it again next year.

Another great IHS Men’s Alumni Basketball Game took place over the weekend.  After being snowed out on Friday night, we were still able to have the game Saturday afternoon, 1/10.  Thank you to all of the players who joined in the fun!  Special thanks to Ken and Kenny Decker for organizing the event, Dan Murphy, Bob Nelson and Nelson Mingachos for coaching the teams, Bobby Nolan for announcing the game, Gerry Hatcher for keeping score (83-80 was the final) and Sean Kerins, Brian Kerins and Sean Decker for officiating.  We are hoping to have a BIG game next year, bringing back all former basketball alumni as we celebrate our school’s 50th Anniversary!

CHECK OUT OUR NEW 50TH LOGO!  Excitment is building as we look forward to the 2015/2016 school year.  The IHS Alumni Association is anticipating a huge return of many alumni to help celebrate the 50th anniversary celebration of our first graduating class.  Please contact Denise (Henry) Suarez '87, Alumni Coordinator at if you would like to join the 50th Anniversary planning committee.  Our next meeting will be held on Monday, February 23rd at 7:30 p.m. at IHS. We would love to have you on board, as we plan for a wonderful year-long celebration of Immaculate High School.

All of the details will be shared in the coming weeks!!!

February 4, 2015 was NCAA Signing Day. We are excited to share with our alumni that both Paige Davis and Maeve Reilly signed letters of intent to continue their athletic careers in college. Paige signed on with the College of Charleston, where she will play soccer at the Division I level. This past season, Paige was named All-SWC, All-State, All-New England, as well as All-American. As the captain, she led us to the Class L State Championship!

Maeve is a superb all-around athlete who will continue her career at the College of Holy Cross as a member of the Women’s Ice Hockey team. Maeve has excelled as a member of the Ridgefield/Immaculate Girls Ice Hockey team the past 3 seasons, earning All FCIAC honors. Maeve was a member of our SWC and State Championship Cross Country teams as a Junior. She also led our Girls Lacrosse team to the Class S State Semifinals, being named to the Class S All-State team.

Our winter sports program (basketball, ice hockey, indoor track and wrestling) is going extremely well.  Please take a look at the recent Athletic Newsletter for detail, as well as the IHS website for upcoming games and tournaments. Come and cheer on your Mustangs!
