Alumni Spotlight

Al Lupesnki '80

Kevin Dunleavy and Al Lupenski '80 at the September 19th "Shoot for the Stars" football game in Mustang Valley.

It was great for Kevin Dunleavy to see one of his former students at last month's football game at Immaculate.  Al commented to us, "It was great to get back to Immaculate for the football game on Sept 19th.  It was the first time in over 25 years that I have had the chance.  It was especially nice to run into one of my favorite teachers and coaches, Mr Dunleavy, as soon as I walked through the gate.  I have the fondest memories of my time at Immaculate.  The education and overall experience prepared me not only for college but prepared me for the challenges I would face in my career.   Now that I am living closer, I look forward to attending more events at Immaculate.  It was like coming home!"

Colonel Albert V. Lupenski (IHS '80) is the Commander of the Air Force Reserve's 439th Airlift Wing, Air Force Reserve Command at Westover Air Reserve Base in Massachusetts.
Al graduated from Immaculate in 1980 and then went on to Dowling College in Oakdale, NY where he received a B.S in Aeronautical Science.  He met his wife Kathy there in 1981.  She coincidently went to Ridgefield High School and knew a few of Al's friends from Immaculate.  They were married in 1988.  After college, Al went to flight school with the Air Force and flew search and rescue helicopters in the Air National Guard and the Air Force Reserve.  He flew helicopters in New York, Alaska and Florida.  In 2000, he converted to fixed wing flying and continued his Air Force career at Andrews AFB, MD.  He then went on to command a unit at Travis AFB, CA and then on to be the 932 Airlift Wing Commander at Scott AFB, IL.  During his time at Scott, he commanded a distinguished airlift unit, where he was responsible for flying our nations leaders (congress, senate, etc.), including the First Lady of the United States.   Al was recently selected as the new 439th Airlift Wing Commander at Westover Air Reserve Base in Chicopee, MA.  This is the largest Air Reserve Base in the United States.  Al commented, "Getting back to this part of the country is great.  We love being back in New England."  We love having him closer to IHS!!!  Congratulations to Al on his new position and best wishes for continued success.  Thank you for your service to our country!

25th Annual IHS Golf Outing ~ It was wonderful to see 41 alumni join us for our annual event.  A great day of golf and friendship was shared by all at Richter Park on September 24th.  Thank you Sean Deakin '87 and Rosy Tomorrows for hosting the Pre-Golf Outing Alumni Social!

13th Annual Benjamin Bisbano Golf Open ~
Thank you to the Bisbano family (pictured) and Ben's friends from IHS for coordinating this annual event to raise funds for the Benjamin Bisbano Memorial Scholarship at Immaculate.  It is wonderful to see our alumni support this event each year, as we keep Ben's memory alive for all at IHS and beyond.  Save the Date for next year's event on October 2, 2015!

3rd annual Candace Lee Williams 5K Run to Remember ~ The Candace Lee Williams 5K Run to Remember is in honor of Candace and all those who lost their lives in connection with September 11, 2001 was held on September 13th. All proceeds from the race are split equally and donated to the Candace Lee Williams Memorial Scholarship at Immaculate and to Tuesday's Children - First Responder Alliance Program.  Thank you to the committee which included Alyson (Halas) Meeker '99, Jennifer Tomas '00, Liz Campbell '00, current student Emily Gallagher '16, and current parent Gwen Gallagher.
