Andrea Westervelt '10

Currently a PhD candidate in Mechanical Engineering, and the founder and CEO of an early stage healthcare start-up, Andrea admits that juggling both can prove to be quite time consuming, but she is doing it and we are so proud of all that she has accomplished since leaving IHS just 7 short years ago!

At Immaculate, Andrea was a member of the National Honor Society and Key Club, along with being captain of the varsity Soccer (3 state championships) and Lacrosse (1 state championship) teams. After graduating Immaculate, Andrea earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Clarkson University in Potsdam, NY and then received her MS in Mechanical Engineering from Columbia University. She is currently pursuing her PhD in Mechanical Engineering at Columbia, expecting to graduate in 2019.

In addition to pursuing her advanced education, Andrea is also the founder and CEO of an early stage healthcare start-up named Term Affirm. The new company seeks to provide solutions to preterm birth by providing an integrated diagnostic tool and patient-specific therapeutic medical device. They recently finished a biotech start-up accelerator and are starting pre-clinical trials in hospitals. Andrea also raises a service dog for the Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind and America's VetDogs, who after a year with Andrea will go into formal training to become a guide dog for the blind or a service dog for disabled veterans.

Congratulations, Andrea and best wishes for continued success! MUSTANG PRIDE!
